Since 2021, I have dreamed of improving the workflow of lab experts worldwide by providing innovative software to count bacterial colonies on agar plates—without the need for additional hardware. It had to be fast, mobile-friendly, and more affordable than traditional hardware solutions.

How to Use the Colony Counter – Quick Guide
Tip: First you need to make sure your image has a high resolution and no reflections. Your image quality is a strong influence on the result. If certain colony types aren’t counted correctly, feel free to send us some images—we’ll retrain our model to improve accuracy for you.
1️⃣ Sign up on the website.
2️⃣ Launch the app by clicking the link in your account.
3️⃣ Upload an image, and the app will automatically count the colonies.
4️⃣ Fine-tune the results if needed using the Confidence Threshold*.
5️⃣ View your final count instantly.
*What is the Confidence Threshold?
The Confidence Threshold helps adjust the sensitivity of the AI model. A higher threshold makes the app count only very clear colonies, while a lower threshold includes fainter or unclear colonies. If the count seems off, simply tweak this setting to improve accuracy!

Before uploading, make sure your image:
✅ Has high resolution – blurry images reduce accuracy.
✅ Is free of reflections – glare can interfere with colony detection.
📸 Image quality strongly affects the counting results! A clear, well-lit photo ensures the best performance. 🚀

I am planning to add many more functionalities soon. Additionally, I regularly train the model to improve your counting results. I expect it to be fully completed by mid-2025, but it is already reliable enough for daily lab work.
